Here Comes the Sun: Paint Colors to Enhance Natural Light
Paint colors are a mystery sometimes, changing color completely when the sun is shining on them. A paint color you picked during the evening hours can appear like a totally new color during the day. You should always test paint colors during all hours to make sure you like them.
Summer is around the corner, and it’s likely that your home will be filled with natural light much more than during the winter months. Maximize the natural light in your home and take in all the benefits of feeling the sun on your face. You wake up brighter when you see the sun shining through the windows. But do you like your paint colors when fully exposed to natural light?
Which Way Is the Room Facing?
When choosing paint colors, you may consider which way the sun comes into your home. If your room faces the east, your room will be filled with natural light in the morning and more shaded throughout the evening.
If your room faces the west, the room will be filled with light all afternoon and evening, with orange and pink tones as the sun goes down. Sometimes the sun is too much in the hot afternoons, so keep in mind that you may block out the sun rays if they bring in too much heat.
Choose white, gray, and blue to absorb the sun and brighten during the daylight hours. When the sun is shining brightly, they will reflect a warm tone. And as the sun moves to the other side of the house, the blues and gray will feel more moody and cool.
If you spend most of your time in a room during full sunlight hours, you can choose dark colors that will still shine bright in a room filled with windows. Keep in mind that the wall with windows on them will appear darker than the walls opposite the windows. And the ceiling will always appear a shade darker since it does not get a direct shine of light. The ceilings are usually the surface that creates the light source in the evenings.
